Mikey as tour guide during Artscape 2012, taken July 21st, 2012

Corner BYOB’s team in Hampden is working for free to generate funds for their much-loved teammate, Mikey Cassidy

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012:  Corner BYOB will be opening its doors on their off-day to throw their humble fundraiser for an injured comrade, Mikey Cassidy. A 3-course prix fixe dinner menu, all-inclusively priced at $35 per person, will be served from 3:00pm to midnight. And 100% of the collected revenues will be turned over to Mikey Cassidy & his family, located in Timonium, to help satisfy the hospital bills and physical therapy treatments needed to get him back on track.

“Mikey is one of a kind”:  Mikey Cassidy has been part of the Corner BYOB team since last winter, but he is no stranger to the industry. He had prior gigs in a gamut of eating/drinking establishments, from Oceanaire of Harbor East to Armadillos bar in Fells Point – truly a beloved co-worker for many in the restaurant business. “He brings a lot of energy and optimism every day he comes to work,” states Cecille Fenix, owner of Corner BYOB, “so infectious and truly missed. That’s why we’re all pooling our efforts to give back some good karma.” Mikey, a healthy 31-year-old, was on his usual bike commute from Hampden to Mt. Vernon on August 24th, 2012, when his bicycle took a very nasty spill along old Falls Road. The damage went beyond the usual road rash as he sustained serious neck injuries with a lower scalp fracture. After close observation and tests for four days between Mercy Hospital and UMD’s Shock Trauma Center, he is following doctor’s orders by staying off his feet, maintaining the blood thinner meds to avoid clots in the brain, and more testing.

Come out for a true cause:  Corner BYOB’s Chef Bernard will be preparing most of Mikey’s favorite dishes as selections on the 3-course menu, like bone marrow, foie gras, roasted duck, and lobster risotto. The menu will be available from 3:00pm to midnight on Tuesday, September 18th, to accommodate many restaurant industry folks that want to support the cause before or after their work shifts. Those who are not able to partake in the meal are encouraged to call in or drop off their pledge of any denomination to demonstrate their support. The gift of funds will be presented to Mikey with a list of all the donors and their personalized well-wishes for a speedy recovery.
